Expressway suspension bridge<br \/>\n&#8211; Part of the Shangri-La \u2194 Lijiang expressway<br \/>\n&#8211; 1,017 m total length, single 766 m main span, single-tower steel-truss suspension design<br \/>\n&#8211; Deck about 250 m above the Jinsha (upper Yangtze) River<br \/>\n&#8211; Road deck joined January 2020, opened to traffic soon after .<\/p>\n<p>2. Railway suspension bridge (Jinshajiang Hutiaoxia Railway Bridge)<br \/>\n&#8211; Carries the new Lijiang\u2013Shangri-La line (Lixiang Railway)<br \/>\n&#8211; 660 m main span, 250 m high, truss-stiffened suspension bridge<br \/>\n&#8211; One tower 194 m tall, the other 155 m; main spans 132 + 660 + 132 m<br \/>\n&#8211; Completed 2021, now gives a \u22481 h train ride between the two tourist cities .<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/s21.ax1x.com\/2025\/10\/24\/pVX3Qmj.jpg\" width=\"4032\" height=\"3016\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Both spans sit only about 1 km apart just downstream of the famous gorge viewing platform and are designed to clear a future 200 m-deep reservoir if the long-proposed Tiger Leaping Gorge dam is ever built .<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/s21.ax1x.com\/2025\/10\/24\/pVX3n1S.jpg\" width=\"4032\" height=\"3016\" \/><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>There are actually two major bridges at Tiger Leaping Gorge \u2013 one for road traffic and one for rail \u2013 completed in the past few years. 1.
