📸 Best Experiences

Experience Where When
Sunset Hai Jie, Yuji Island, hotel terrace 6:30–7:30 PM
Sunrise East shore of Shuanglang 6:30–7:30 AM
Portrait photography Waterfront cafés, Yuji Island boardwalk After 4:00 PM (soft light)
Quiet stroll Hai Jie, Fuxian Road, Daoyipang Peninsula Before 9:00 AM or after 8:00 PM

⚠️ Tips

  • Avoid 11:00 AM–4:00 PM if you dislike crowds — that’s peak congestion. Start with Hai Jie (relatively calmer) before hitting the main lanes.
  • Full sun protection — Dali sits at ~2,000 m; UV is fierce even on cloudy days.
  • Cobblestones — Not stroller-friendly if traveling with toddlers.
  • Sun Palace — If you can’t snag a free reservation, the afternoon tea entry (CNY 128) is the only other way in. You can also photograph the exterior from the coastal boardwalk for free.
