🏔️ About the Mountain
Jade Dragon Snow Mountain sits just 30 km north of Lijiang Old Town and is the northernmost permanent snow mountain in the Northern Hemisphere. Its thirteen jagged peaks stretch 35 km in a row, resembling a giant silver jade dragon lying across the plateau — hence the name.
The highest peak, Shanzidou (扇子陡), reaches 5,596 meters and remains unclimbed — not because it’s impossible, but out of Naxi cultural reverence. The mountain is sacred to the local Naxi people, regarded as the “Third Kingdom” in ancient Dongba legends.

🌊 Blue Moon Valley (蓝月谷) — Don’t Skip It
Even if you don’t take any cable car, Blue Moon Valley alone justifies the ¥120 base ticket. The water here is a surreal milky turquoise due to dissolved copper and other minerals from glacial meltwater. The four connected lakes — Yuye (Jade Liquid), Jingtan (Mirror Pond), Lanyue (Blue Moon), and Tingtao (Listening to Waves) — each have slightly different hues.
The valley is free with your entry ticket — you only pay for the shuttle bus to get there. The ¥40–50 electric carts inside the valley are optional; walking the wooden boardwalks is more rewarding and takes about 40 minutes.
